HORIZON Learner’s Handbook
What is HORIZON
HORIZON is a part time alternative learning provision for 13-16 (Ignite) and post 16 learners, who are unable to access a mainstream course because they do not have the entry requirements or have been out of mainstream education for any reason.
Emotional Intelligence, Life and Employability Skills are at the core of HORIZON, and you will be able to develop these in a supportive, motivated and respectful alternative environment.
When we engage with our learners, we deal with key issues such as:
- Self-awareness
- Self-regulation
- Motivation
- Empathy
- Social skills
Personal development skills are vital to help young people fulfil their potential and gain confidence, knowledge, independence and employability. The courses will include transferable skills in health and safety in the workplace, teamwork, customer care and applying for employment.
You will also have the chance to gain new skills and try new things through our up-cycling and repairing initiatives whilst working on community projects as part of the HORIZON Task Force, helping in the HORIZON Shop or trying new or different skills and expressing ideas on HORIZON Street.
