  • Skills for independent living
  • Skills for gaining employment
  • Health and safety at work
  • Working in a team
  • Managing personal budget
  • Study skills
  • Mental health and well-being
  • Problem solving
  • Diversity and equality in society
  • Becoming a positive member of the community

All learners on the Engage course will also have the opportunity to gain real life experience working in specialist areas such as retail, building maintenance, travel and tourism through work experience and Horizon community projects. Horizon Community Training has numerous contacts with local community groups and businesses, providing opportunities in many areas of activity.

Qualification

Engage is a modular course leading to the NCFE qualification Skills Towards Enabling Progression Entry 3. This can be achieved as an Award, a Certificate or a Diploma depending on the number of credits gained.

Alongside the NCFE qualification a learner can also achieve City and Guilds Entry Level Functional Skills in both Maths and English.

Duration

Engage is a time flexible programme. The duration is determined on the learner’s needs, the desired outcome and the point of entry to the course.

Horizon runs two Engage groups at any one time. One group commences in September for the full academic year. The second group is a ‘roll on roll off’ 12-week course for those that have to join later, for any reason, or have been removed from another learning provider during the academic year.

In most cases the qualifications available can be achieved in the following time frames.

Award – 12 weeks, 18 hours a week (16 credits)
Certificate – 24 weeks, 18 hours a week (24 credits)
Diploma – 36 weeks, 18 hours a week (36 credits)
